    Smart Urban Systems

Smart Environment Design Laboratory (SEDL) at KAIST aims at performing various cross-disciplinary researched applicable to ubiquitous technology augmented built environment in various levels ranging from smart objects and u-buildings up to u-City. For this, core uIT(Ubiquitous Information Technology) such as mobile communication, sensor network, RFID, BcN, bi-directional multimedia, LBS, multi-modal interface, contect aware computing and intelligent robots are applied to architecture, civil engineering and urban planning & design domains. Detailed research domains are inclusive of pervasive environment, intelligent building systems, passive building technology, intelligent home network, robotic interface for smart environment monitoring & control, ubiquitous systems/spaces/cities, multi-modal environmental interface, interactive media enabled space, architectural & urban design methodology, sustainable architectural & urban environments. predictive future simulation and scientific inquiry into creativity. The lab eventually looks for its role of conceiving and designing diverse forms of u-cities as the integration of all possible techno-socio-economic-cultural components of making artificial environments.
