    Resilient Infrastructure

Primary research efforts in the structural design laboratory focus on the development of advanced numerical models which can simulate the structural behavior of concrete from early-age to ultimate limit state and the use of these models for the improvement of current analysis, design and construction methods and for the accurate prediction of the serviceability and safety of infra-structural systems such as bridges, high-rise buildings, and nuclear containment vessels. Specific areas of interest are: (1) finite element analysis of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures under monotonic and cyclic loadings; (2) analysis of concrete bridges considering the construction sequence; (3) creep buckling analysis of RC structures; (4) modeling of non-mechanical deformations of concrete such as the early-age behavior and the long-term behavior; and (5) modeling of bond and shear transfer mechanisms in various concrete structures. In addition, improved design methods are being developed, including ones based on optimization and computer aided design procedures. This work focuses on reinforced concrete bridges and buildings, and parking garage structures.
