The main research of the structural systems laboratory is computational mechanics, The research activities of the laboratory include the theoretical development of finite element method, finite element structural analysis, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), wind tunnel test, and their applications in structural engineering. Students are involved not only in development of general purpose and delicated purpose structural analysis program, namely, FESA(Finite Elements in Structural Analysis) and BUILDS(Building Design System), but also in enhancing their ability to use computational mechanics to solve the practical problems of construction industry. Professor Choi is also actively involved in the industrial activities, such as editing and publishing five highly respected international journals as the editor-in-chief and organizing over 20 international conferences in this field
