Students from KAIST’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering won top awards at the Sustainable Transition with AI (STAI) 2025 Hackathon, held under the theme “AI for Climate Action.” The event brought together students from KAIST’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, KAIST’s Graduate School of Green Growth and Sustainability, Cheju Halla University’s Department of Artificial Intelligence, and Yonsei University’s Department of Computer Science. Participants collaborated to design and implement AI-driven solutions for urgent climate challenges.
The STAI-tuned team, consisting of master’s student Youngjoo Lee and undergraduate Heewon Ahn, won the Grand Prize for their proposal of a climate finance tracking system that integrates satellite imagery and blockchain technology.
The Deepsea-K team, consisting of master’s student Beomseo Kim and undergraduate Seongsoo Yang, won the Second Prize for developing an NFT-based early-intervention financing model.
The Water Navigator team, consisting of master’s students Heeyeon Kim and Nahyung Kang, won the AWS Special Award for creating an AI-powered tool to identify optimal well locations.
